DOZENS OF CITY LEADERS SERVE AS PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY!

Metro Councilman Colby Sledge was among the community leaders who stepped inside 87 Nashville public schools for the 14th annual Principal for the Day co-coordinated by PENCIL and Metro Nashville Public Schools.

The once-a-year opportunity allows community and business leaders to get a glimpse into our public schools, meet our students and see first-hand the tremendous joy — and responsibility — that comes with being the principal in charge of dozens of teachers and hundreds of students.

“It is crucial for Metro Schools to know we care about the educational issues on a personal level,” Sledge said. “If we want to solve anything, presence in schools is a must to create authentic community conversations.”

After their morning in the schools, all the participants gathered for an appreciation luncheon sponsored by Piedmont Natural Gas at Trevecca Nazarene University’s Boone Convocation Center. “Metro Nashville Public Schools have a huge diversity of needs to serve” said principal-for-a-day Jennifer Hackett. “It takes an engaged, caring and practically omnipresent principal as well as a lot of community support to get the job done!”
