Tis the season of giving, and PENCIL has truly felt the kindness and generosity of this community. This year has been difficult for everyone — but companies, organizations and people have shown immense compassion and continue to support us in inspiring ways.
One group that went above and beyond this holiday season is the Nashville Chapter of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. With a recommendation from PENCIL Board Members and NAIOP Members, Kaitlyn Jones and Haley Eakin, NAIOP approached PENCIL about doing a fundraiser in support of Metro Nashville Public School students as a way to engage members and spread a little extra happiness during the season of gratitude.
And that is exactly what they did. NAIOP hosted a month-long online fundraiser for members and member companies, and it was a huge success! The campaign raised more than $13,080 in support of MNPS students and families.
“2020 has been a difficult year for so many. Students have been disadvantaged by the pandemic. We wanted to do our part to leverage our network to help make the long winter a little more bearable for youth in need,” said Caroline Mullen, Executive Director of NAIOP, Nashville Chapter.
Because of many motivated donors, PENCIL’s Family Resource Centers (FRC), school-based hubs for community resources, are able to distribute more than 300 unique holiday gift, hygiene, & supply kits this month, and will be able to continue distributing supplies to students and families throughout the spring.
“The food and gifts from the Antioch FRC have truly been a blessing as we just have not had the income during these hard times to do both! I don’t know what I would’ve had under the tree or on the table if it weren’t for the help,” expressed an Antioch High School parent, who received a food basket and support kit.
Thanks to organizations like NAIOP, PENCIL has been able to and will continue to support the needs of Metro students, families and teachers.
