A Bucket List Trip

 A Bucket List Trip
How one MNPS teacher used her Southwest Airlines tickets

Anyone who has attended a PENCIL event is familiar with the frenzy of people bidding on Southwest Airlines tickets in the A Little Night of Music auction, or the delight on a principal’s face when we draw their name to receive roundtrip tickets at Principal for a Day. But nothing is more rewarding to us than when we get to pull an educator’s name and present tickets to them!

Mt. View Elementary School teacher Dee Wagner happened to be at the DG PENCIL Box the day we had a big surprise planned – a drawing for two lucky educators to win roundtrip tickets courtesy of our Partner Southwest Airlines! Winning the tickets came at the perfect time for Dee, who was planning a spring break trip to Universal Orlando with her son.

“The new Epic Universe park was already a bucket-list item, and my son and I were able to visit all the Harry Potter attractions too. We were able to enjoy ourselves much more than if I had to spend more on tickets,” said Dee. “Thank you PENCIL and Southwest for this wonderful adventure I got to share with my son!”

It was serendipitous that the day Dee shared her story with us was also the same day we learned that Southwest Airlines was celebrating a milestone 40 years of serving Nashville. As their presence has grown alongside our area’s growth, Southwest has been making significant investments in PENCIL for more than a decade. We are deeply grateful to our community partners, like Southwest, who support MNPS students through PENCIL programs and services.
