PENCIL Principal for a Day, Friday November 8th

PENCIL Principal for a Day, Friday November 8th

PENCIL welcomed more than 300 participants to its annual Principal for a Day experience. Across the district, 130 MNPS principals welcomed community members to their schools, to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a principal. The memorable experience concluded with a lively luncheon at Cheekwood Estate & Gardens.

The day began with the guest principals greeting students as they arrived and making morning announcements. After a tour of the school, guest principals then had the opportunity to meet students and staff, and participate in activities such as guided reading, student murals, and musical sing-a-longs.

The excitement carried over to the beautiful Massey Hall at Cheekwood, where all gathered for lunch and the program. Guests were welcomed on-site by a phenomenal performance from Cane Ridge High School Marching Band, including a live performance of the MNPS anthem “Every Student Known”.

Guests heard from Jane MacLeod, CEO of Cheekwood; Courtney Ross, Senior Manager of Community Engagement at Amazon; and PENCIL President & CEO Christiane Buggs, who made the ask of guest principals: “When you, your friends, and co-workers are ready to give your time, talent, and treasure to our students, remember PENCIL. We are the soft landing spot for any adult wanting to get involved with Metro Schools.”

Dr. Adrienne Battle, Director of Schools, expressed her appreciation to all involved before launching into a Q-and-A with 10 new MNPS principals, all themed around nature and growth to align with our generous hosts at Cheekwood.

The day provided a fuller picture of the great work happening in Metro Nashville Public Schools, and an opportunity to celebrate Metro Schools’ dual achievements of a Level 5 growth score for the third consecutive year, and its highest graduation rate on record.

PENCIL is grateful for the support of our presenting sponsor Amazon, as well as support from Cheekwood Estate & Gardens, Southwest Airlines, Burr & Forman, Ryman Hospitality Properties, and Metro Nashville Public Schools.
