Nashville, TN (August 15, 2022) – PENCIL (Public Education Needs Community Involvement and Leadership), the boots-on-the-ground resource recruiter to Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS), will honor Rogers Group at their annual Back to School Breakfast with the distinguished Ingram Award.
The Ingram Award is given each year to a community partner or volunteer who provides outstanding support and engagement to MNPS through PENCIL. Darin Matson, President & CEO of Rogers Group, will accept the award, which is named for the late E. Bronson Ingram, a founding board member of PENCIL.
“We greatly appreciate Rogers Group’s deep commitment to our work,” shares Angie Adams, PENCIL President & CEO. “Their generosity is extensive and includes dedicated PENCIL Partnerships with Hull Jackson, Alex Green, and Charlotte Park elementary schools, and with the Academy of Architecture and Construction at Cane Ridge High School. Plus, their team regularly volunteers in our DG PENCIL Box resource center.”
PENCIL and Rogers Group have a long history. “Josh DePriest, the VP of Finance and Treasurer at Rogers Group, is an active member of our board. Because of the strong relationship between Rogers Group and PENCIL, we have a headquarters in west Nashville that houses our offices and our DG PENCIL Box under one roof for the first time in our 40-year history,” Adams added.
Through investments of time, talent, and treasure, Rogers Group continues to partner with PENCIL to impact Nashville’s future.
Darin Matson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Rogers Group, believes in leading by example. “Taking an active role in the communities where we live and operate is not just the right thing to do, it is an expectation of all leadership at our company,” he noted. “We have been able to accomplish this by serving MNPS students and teachers through our 20 plus year partnership with PENCIL.”
Matson added, “We are proud of providing a home for the PENCIL team and warehouse space for the DG PENCIL Box to receive and distribute much needed classroom supplies to our teachers free of charge. From volunteering to read with Metro’s youngest learners, to hands-on service with the PENCIL Box, to collaborating with thought leaders on PENCIL’s board and more, we care about Nashville, our teachers, and our rising leaders. We are honored to be a part of this community of caring partners.”
The Back to School Breakfast is an inspiring morning that raises awareness, community support, and funds for PENCIL’s mission of linking community resources to MNPS. Sponsors for this year’s event include presenting sponsor Elliott Davis, and Dean’s List sponsors Amazon and Belmont University. Event co-chairs include Kenny Crapse (Fifth Third Bank), Joan Fleming (Citizens Savings Bank & Trust), and Nicole Keefe (Burr & Forman). The event will include a giving moment, during which guests may support this impactful work.
The 2022 Back to School Breakfast, presented by Elliott Davis, will be held on Thursday, August 25, from 7 – 8:30 AM at the Belmont Curb Event Center. More information at www.PENCILForSchools.org.
