Delivering school supplies to MNPS schools across the county
When educators can’t make it to the DG PENCIL Box, the Box comes to them. PENCIL is hitting the road and delivering backpacks filled with essential supplies directly to classrooms across Metro Nashville Public Schools through our pop-up shops. Powered by a van generously provided by Nissan North America, this effort is breaking down barriers, reaching schools with the greatest need, and putting critical tools into the hands of students.
Several times each month, Juan Williams, Jr., PENCIL Box Project Manager, fills up our van and delivers backpacks stuffed with core school supplies to educators across the district. He is frequently joined by one or more members of our team, who enjoy engaging with teachers just as much as he does.
“We know that getting school supplies into our schools is imperative because our educators tell us so,” said Juan. “They report that having access to these supplies improves student learning outcomes, behavior, preparedness, and project-based learning.”
Expanding the DG PENCIL Box beyond its physical storefront allows us to better address the school supply needs faced by at least 65% of MNPS students, remove barriers to access, and strengthen our relationships with educators and schools across the district.
