Connecting in the Classroom

 Connecting in the Classroom
Let PENCIL be your gateway to volunteering in our schools

Anyone in the community who wants to give their time or talent to an MNPS school needs to check out PENCIL Connect! Our online volunteer portal lists a wide range of one-time and ongoing opportunities happening in grades K-12, and new events are being constantly added. Here are just a few of the activities coming up.

One of MNPS’ most important volunteer needs is for Test Proctors in April and May. As a volunteer, you will assist the classroom teacher or test administrator in administering standardized state tests. You will also provide teachers with a much-needed break while protecting testing integrity. While not listed on PENCIL Connect yet, please let us know your interest in learning more here, and please consider attending one of our Proctor Parties on Thursday, April 2.

From March 2-6, classrooms, libraries, and communities across the nation will come alive with the magic of books as they celebrate Read Across America Week. MNPS elementary schools want volunteers to share their love of books with our youngest readers. You can bring a childhood favorite or select from the school’s library. Some opportunities are already posted on the PENCIL Connect calendar, and we expect more to come.

If you can’t wait until March, consider signing up for Aventura Community School’s STEAM Night on February 26. Do you prefer a daytime activity? You can inspire students to the many possibilities their futures hold as a Career Day guest.

Be sure to keep up with all the engaging ways PENCIL helps you become involved in MNPS schools by signing up and checking here often!
