Impacting Students Through PENCIL Connect

One of the best ways to get involved with PENCIL and start positively impacting Metro Schools is through our volunteer platform, PENCIL Connect! Schools post their current needs for volunteers, and anyone in PENCIL’s network can browse opportunities, sign up, and get instantly connected with the school. 

Common opportunities include reading or lunch buddies where volunteers spend 30-60 minutes with students helping improve their literacy or social-emotional skills, or career speakers where volunteers expose students to their career industry, journey to success, and realities of working in their given field. 

We’ve also organized group volunteer experiences in schools through PENCIL Connect, like last September with BMI where volunteers went to several school locations and accomplished much-needed projects within the schools (gardening, cleaning, organizing, painting, etc.) 

Another sweet PENCIL Connect event we’ve facilitated was the Love of Reading Day last February, around Valentine’s Day, where guests brought age-appropriate books to read to Pre-K classrooms at Ross Early Learning Center and then gifted those books to the classroom teachers.
